AT the November meeting of the guild the chairman reminded members that payment for the visit to the ice show at Cardiff was now due. Members were also urged to sign their names for the Christmas party on December 4. The chairman thanked Maureen for organising the catering.
The carol service this year will be at Tupsley on December 13 at St Paul’s Church, 2pm.
The leisure group will be taking its final walk of the season and will all meet at Betty Wilson’s house for Christmas refreshments.
The chairman welcomed the speaker for the day, Alan Clarke, whose subject was the Isles of Scilly.
Mr Clarke showed some superb slides and proved to be a very good travel guide and ambassador for encouraging people to visit the Scilly Isles. He explained how the pace of life is slow and the islands are a great place to relax since they are uncrowded, the waters around the islands are unpolluted, the beaches clean and the weather on the whole is good. Altogether there are 200 rocks and islands which make up the Scilly Islands, only five are inhabited, approximately 2,000 people live and work there. Mr Clarke showed slides of St Mary’s, Tresco with the beautiful Abbey Gardens and Bryher. All in all it was a most enjoyable morning.
The vote of thanks was given by Sheila Sumner. The next meeting will be the Christmas party on December 4.
