A JAGUAR car was set on fire in Ledbury.

The car fire happened shortly after 3am on Saturday (November 29) when residents in Mabels Furlong heard a loud bang and discovered an N-reg Jaguar XJ6 motor car alight in the road.

The car was parked at the ends of Mabels Furlong near the back entrance to John Masefield High School and an alleyway leading to Biddulph Way and Deer Park.

Police in Ledbury are now appealing for witnesses.

The fire service put out the blaze which police are treating as arson at this stage. Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area during the early hours. Several parked cars in Mabels Furlong had their windscreen wipers upturned that night.

Police are also looking at the possibility of a link with another incident in The Southend nearby during the same night.

Pieces of a leaflet and tobacco papers were set on fire and pushed through the letterbox of a house in the road, though no damage was caused to the inside of the property. The man and his wife at the address were asleep inside.

Police say this may be connected with an incident the previous day when a man asked an 18-year old male and a girl of similar age not to sit on his wall.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have information on these two incidents and should contact PC Chris O'Donovan at Ledbury Police Station on 0300 333 3000 without delay or call the free Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
