MEMORIES of a swimming pool and a laundry were recalled when visitors spent time at a Worcester primary school’s history day.

Former pupils and teachers of Stanley Road Primary School were invited back to take a look around and share their reollections.

The school recently regubished the old laundry, turning it into an art room, and had been hoping to learn more about its history.

Headteacher Anne Potter said: “We had a great day with about 50 visitors, the oldest of who was in her 80s and remembered being here from the age of five to 13.

“Another person said they could remember a swimming pool in one of our courtyards, and others said they recalled learning how to wash and iron clothes in the old laundry.

“It was wonderful to hear their memories. I think they enjoyed coming along to see how the school had changed and we got a lot out of it, learning about the history of the school.”

The laundry room was built in 1915, a year before the neighbouring school opened in 1916. After the Second World War it passed to the now Worcestershire County Council until the school negotiated its return last spring.
