A DRINK driver escaped serious injury after losing control of her vehicle and flipping it on to its roof.

Ralitsq Zhivkova was travelling on the B4624 Evesham to Worcester road at 8.20am on Saturday, November 15, when she looked down to change the radio station and lost control of the car.

At Worcester Magistrates Court, the 26-year-old of Blackberry Way, Evesham, admitted driving with 71mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

She also admitted driving without insurance.

Sallie Hewitt, prosecuting, said: “The vehicle crossed the white lines and into the verge, causing it to go into the air and then land on its roof.

“Emergency services were called and officers could smell drink on the defendant’s breath.”

After treatment at Worcestershire Royal Hospital Zhivkova was taken to Worcester Police Station and arrested.

Judith Kenney, defending, said her client moved to England from Bulgaria to get experience in the hotel management trade, but had found it impossible to secure work.

On the day of the crash she was taking the car, which belonged to a friend, to be exchanged.

“She had not been drinking that day,” said Mrs Kenney.

“This was from the night before. That previous evening she had been drinking vodka.”

Zhivkova was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £240, and ordered to pay £60 court costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
