A MAN threatened to kill another man because he thought he kept giving him “death stares”, a court heard.

Alan Hartiss also threatened to give somebody else a “kicking in” because he thought he had been tormenting his son.

Hartiss, of Fairfield Place, Evesham, admitted a charge of using threatening words or behaviour when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Marie Watton, prosecuting, said Hartiss, aged 40, approached a man kicking a ball against a wall on the Fairfield estate and poked him in the side of the ribs.

“The male recognised the defendant as someone living in Fairfield Place,” she said.

“He didn’t know the man but he stared right in front of his face and said, ‘Tell your mate big Dan I will kill him if he keeps giving me death stares’.”

Miss Watton said Hartiss walked off only to return just a few minutes later.

“Hartiss threw his coat on the floor and marched up to him,” she said.

“He thought he was going to be hit.”

The recipient of the abuse then flagged down a passing police car and told the officers what had happened.

Miss Watton said they paid a visit to Hartiss at his home address and, following a conversation with him, made an arrest on Sunday, June 1.

The court heard that put him Hartiss in breach of a suspended sentence previously handed out by Worcester Crown Court.

As a result, district judge Bruce Morgan sent the case to the crown court for sentencing on Friday, January 2.

Hartiss was released on conditional bail until that date.
