Matthews and Mark Knopfler, with a Springspreen sheen.
But, with or without those comparisons, Wales’ Martyn Joseph is a towering talent.
The Cardiff singer-songwriter – set to perform at Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall on Sunday, December 7 – is an independent artist with success on his side.
With a career spanning two decades, Joseph has supported Art Garfunkel, Ani DiFranco, Jools Holland and Joan Armatrading.
He won the Best Male Artist at the Welsh Music Awards and found fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
During the 1990s his singles, Please Sir and Dolphins Make Me Cry, secured him chart success, while music magazine MOJO called him “a challenging songwriter and compelling and courageous live performer”.
At Huntingdon Hall he will showcase songs from his 30th album Evolved, released earlier this year.
For tickets, priced £16.50 and £15.50 concessions, call the Worcester Live box office on 01905 611427 or visit worcesterlive.co.uk.
