FOOTBALL matches will be taking place across Worcestershire as part of a record-breaking attempt to stage the largest-ever synchronised match.

The World’s Biggest Game (WBG), which is being co-ordinated by Worcester-based Andrew Barnett, will take place next Saturday when people around the country will all kick off at 11am.

More than 100 players will take part at Nunnery High School Sports Field in Worcester and 200 players are taking part at Baxter College in Kidderminster.

And there is still time for teams to register to take part in the event.

Registration closes on Monday.

Teams can raise funds for their own local community sports project or charity.

Mr Barnett said: “It is vital that teams get their registrations to us so we can send the shirts out in time.

"Let’s play the game, break the record and raise the funds.”

There will be a commemorative match between Aston Villa Old Stars and West Bromwich Albion All Stars being held at the University of Birmingham, which will also be the World’s Biggest Game’s HQ for the day.

To register visit worldsgame.org. All participating players get to keep a special WBG-crested shirt.

The World’s Biggest Game (WBG) is supported by a range of agencies including West Mercia Police, Football in the Community, Kick it Out, Give Us Back Our Game and charities such as Air Ambulance, Age Concern and the Noah's Ark Trust.

The winning team overall, to be decided by adding the cumulative scores from all the games, will win the West Bromwich Building Society Community Cup - which will be hoisted aloft by the team captain of either Aston Villa Old Stars or West Bromwich Albion All Stars at the special centrepiece match.
