AN ANGRY man called his ex-partner “a spiteful bitch” before punching her, grabbing her by the throat and bashing her off her garden fence.

Adrian Farrow admitted two common assaults against his former partner Tracey Carroll, the worst of which left her in need of hospital treatment.

Farrow, aged 41, of Nunnery Avenue, Droitwich, entered guilty pleas to both battery charges at Worcester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The first incident happened at Farrow’s flat on Monday, June 2, after the couple had resumed their relationship again following an initial break-up.

Miss Carroll told him she was leaving for the evening because she had things to sort out for work the next day.

Marie Watton, prosecuting, told the court: “She said he then went mad and grabbed her hard by both wrists, pushed her back against the wall and continued to shake her for about a minute.

“She also said he was shouting and swearing. He later asked her, ‘Where have those bruises come from?’ When she told him he said ‘oh, well’.”

Miss Watton said the second incident happened in the garden of Miss Carroll’s home on Sunday, June 8, after Farrow broke down in tears and told her he did not like her father and did not want her to see her friends.

Ms Watton said: “He called her a spiteful bitch and said, ‘I wish I had never set eyes on you’.

“She asked him to leave and he then punched her with a clenched first causing bruising to the back of her left arm. He then grabbed her around the neck and managed to lift her off the floor. He moved her towards the garden fence. She was finding it difficult to breathe. She remembers thinking he was doing it really hard. She was pushed into the fence about three or four times. He was really angry and kept swearing at her.”

She took refuge in the house, locked the doors and shouted “never come back!” He then left and Miss Carroll attended Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester with soft tissue injuries to her neck.

She was prescribed pain-killers.

Andy Childs, defending, said Farrow had not been before the courts for the last 12 years.

He said: “He has admitted the assaults but I don’t think he would admit that he alone is responsible for the emotional turmoil.”

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report until Monday, December 22. Farrow was bailed on the condition he attend a probation appointment beforehand.
