MASKED men tied up five people in a robbery at Tesco Express in Droitwich today.

A group of about four men with their faces covered arrived at the store in Primsland Way about 10 minutes after it was opened at 5.30am.

They tied male members of staff up - but none of the female staff members, as well as another male who was using the cashpoint at the time of robbery.

Their personal belongings, including mobile telephones, cash and credit cards were stolen.

A police spokesman said: “We have had an incident at Tesco in Primsland Way this morning.

“A number of men with their faces covered by balaclavas entered the premises.

“The assistant opened up at 5.30am and these characters came along at 5.40am.

“There wasn’t an assault but they tied up the members of staff and stole their personal belongings from them.

“They also took items from the store including cigarettes and cash, although we don’t have the full details yet.

“There was also a man outside who was taken into the premises, who was not a member of staff - he was using the cashpoint - and he was tied up.”

The police spokesman said nobody had been injured during the ordeal which is thought to have lasted about 30 minutes before the gang made their getaway, believed to have been in the direction of Tagwell Road.

No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident or who saw anything suspicious in the area at that time.
