THE countdown is on for this year’s big festive charity fund-raiser – the Santathon.

Hundreds of Santas are expected to hit the streets of Worcester and there is still time to sign up.

Entries for the 5km fun run in aid of city-based charity Leukaemia CARE close on Wednesday, December 3.

The Santathon starts and finishes at Worcester City Football Club on St George’s Lane, Barbourne, Worcester, at 11am on Sunday, December 7.

A Christmas fair will be set up at the football ground with stalls selling a variety of goods.

Children can be photographed with Leukaemia CARE’s mascot, Bertie Bloodcell.

Fitness instructor Maria Karpasitis will lead the warm-up while Wyvern FM DJs Paul Kershaw and Paul Ellery will take part and the radio station’s Thunder Crew will also be entertaining the crowds.

Women from Worcester City Women’s Football Club are taking part and local businesses will compete for the Business Rivals challenge.

Leukaemia CARE’s fund-raising executive Alice Watts said: “The excitement is mounting as the event draws near. We’re looking forward to our sixth Santathon in the city.

“We’re hoping it will be bigger and better than ever and hope to see lots of people there enjoying the fun and helping to raise money so that we can continue our work helping people diagnosed with a blood or lymphatic cancer as well as their families and carers who also benefit from the support we provide.”

Santas wanting to take part can collect registration and sponsorship forms from Leukaemia CARE’s offices at Blackpole East, or from Worcester City Football Club until Wednesday, December 3.

Alternatively, you can download them from the charity’s website xmasfunrun.co.uk

Santa suits can be collected in advance of the event from Worcester City Football Club on Thursday, December 4, between 7pm and 9pm.

Leukaemia CARE is also looking for volunteers to help out on the day. About 40 people are needed from 10am until 1pm to carry out a number of different tasks. If you can help call Melanie Taylor at Leukaemia CARE on 0845 521 3456.
