AN abseil down the side of a Worcester store has raised thousands of pounds for a city bereavement charity.
Mayor Lucy Hodgson took part in the daredevil event earlier this year for the Noah’s Ark Trust which helps children in Worcestershire and Herefordshire who have been bereaved.
About 30 brave volunteers took part in the event down the side of Debenhams in High Street, which was deemed a great success by organisers.
Coun Hodgson, who raised £160 towards the total, said it was something she had always wanted to do.
She said: “It was a real honour to do it and was also great fun. I have always wanted to abseil so to be able to do it twice and raise money for such a great cause was very special for me.”
Hayley Fowler, Noah’s Ark community fund-raiser for north Worcestershire, said: “We are delighted that the mayor raised £160 for Noah’s Ark Trust. This now puts the total at more than £5,000 which is brilliant. Once again, thank you to everyone who took part.“ Currently, your Worcester News is working with the trust in the Towards A Brighter Future Appeal to raise money for the charity. The trust is looking for new premises so that it can continue to expand and offer its service to more children in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
Mrs Fowler is hoping to organise a similar event next year and is looking for volunteers.
