HISTORIC church bells were hoisted 80 feet (24 metres) into Worcester Cathedral’s tower yesterday creating quite a spectacle for passers by.
The 17th-century bells, having been kept in storage for the best part of three decades, were being installed in the cathedral’s permanent bell ringing teaching centre and will now be on show for everyone to see.
They were originally housed in St Peter’s Church, Sidbury, but removed when that was demolished in 1972.
The state-of-the-art teaching centre, housed in the clock tower underneath the ringing room, uses computer simulators to teach younger generations how to bell ring.
