A NEW children’s centre in Worcester will be officially opened on Thursday.
Buttercup Children’s Centre has already been delivering services since spring this year at Cranham Primary School, on Tetbury Drive in Warndon.
It was originally a caretaker’s bungalow, but has been converted into a modern centre by Worcestershire County Council.
It is one of a number of children’s centres opening across Worcestershire as part of a county-wide programme.
Liz Eyre, the council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “It is great to see the opening of another centre in the county, which we hope will be widely used by the local community.
"Children’s centres are at the heart of our vision for providing the services that families need.”
The launch runs from 1.30pm until 4pm, and is open to parents and children up to five years old.
It will feature activities including face painting and balloon-modelling.
The new centre will offer a range of services next term including a Citizen’s Advice Bureau, stay and play sessions, jewellery-making, a school breakfast club and cookery.
Children’s centres are a key part of the Government’s Every Child Matters agenda. There are currently 25 centres in Worcestershire, run by a variety of organisations and charities.
