A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital and four other people, including a baby, have been injured after two cars collided in Herefordshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A465 near Stoke Lacy shortly before 2.45pm this afternoon.

Two ambulances, an incident support officer accompanied by a student paramedic, a senior manager, two BASICS Emergency Doctors and the County Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find two cars which had been involved in a significant collision.

"The driver of one car, a woman, suffered a serious head injury. Doctors anaesthetised her before she was immobilised and flown to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for further emergency treatment.

"A baby from the car was treated at the scene for a suspected head injury and ankle injury before being transferred by land ambulance on blue lights to Hereford County Hospital.

To girls believed to be in their late teens were treated for minor arm and ankle injuries and the driver of the second car, a man believed to be in his 50s, suffered minor injuries. They were all taken to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
