Sat pic A REPORT report on how well Worcestershire coped with the 2007 floods has been published.

The Worcestershire Joint County and District Councils Scrutiny Report is a 69-page document detailing how emergency services, councils and the public dealt with rising waters last year. The group, made up of county and district councillors from across Worcestershire, have made a number of recommendations and warned it is “necessary to plan for the worst-case scenario”.

The report scrutinises communication between emergency services and other organisations, comments on drainage problems and concludes dredging the river Severn would be a waste of time and money.

Group leader Councillor Martin King, of Wychavon District Council, said: “While it is only natural for a scrutiny task group to make recommendations, we do not wish to give the impression that organisations did not cope or that there were many failings in the response to the emergencies.

“I is clear from the evidence that agencies did cope very well.”

The scrutiny group will meet again in 12 months to review its findings and recommendations.
