ANTI-WAR campaigners have held a vigil to remember those who died in the conflict in Afghanistan.

Worcester Stop The War Coalition held the vigil by the Worcester Cathedral war memorial on Thursday.

Members read out the names of 30 soldiers and 70 Afghan civilians who have been killed as a result of the war in Afghanistan.

A spokesman said: “The list was a representative list only – whereas we know that 122 British soldiers have died, we can only guess at the full cost in Afghan lives. Similar vigils took place around the country, to commemorate those who have died and to remind people that there is still a war going on that continues to destroy countless lives.”

Lindsay German, national convenor of Stop the War, will be speaking at a public meeting at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Pump Street, at 7pm on Wednesday, January 28, next year.

The discussion is expected to centre on Barack Obama and how he will compare to George W Bush.
