AN award-winning adventure centre for thrill-seekers is being built in the Wyre Forest.
Visitors will soon be able to enjoy a day of trekking from tree-to-tree 40 feet above the forest floor.
The mental and physical challenge, called Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure, will be based on a number of established courses throughout the country.
The centre, set to open in March, has been designed to incorporate some of the forest’s best features.
Steve Sutherland, Go Ape business development manager, said: “The course in the Wyre Forest will have participants zip-sliding past some of the biggest Douglas firs in the country. Go Ape will give people of all ages, the minimum age being 10, the chance to live life more adventurously.”
The Wyre Forest was chosen after customers of Go Ape said they would like to see more courses and it was mentioned as a site. Mr Sutherland said: “We noticed a lot of visitors to our courses at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire already come from the area, and so it made sense to build a course at Wyre Forest.
“It also has all of the attributes we look for in a new location – interesting topography and trees as well as good visitor facilities.”
Construction of the site began at the end of September and most of the work is now done. The next few months will be spent putting the finishing touches to it. Go Ape will create 15 new jobs and is now recruiting for instructors, with interviews being held in January.
Managers also hope to have about 18,000 people visit the site in its first year.
