A 50-YEAR-OLD woman who slapped another woman in her own home has been given a conditional discharge.

Sandra McCartney had previously admitted the assault before appearing before the city’s magistrates for sentencing.

She was at her daughter’s home in Tintern Avenue, Rainbow Hill, on Saturday, June 21, when there was an argument over a child being slapped which resulted in McCartney slapping the next door neighbour.

The female victim was at home with her own young daughter and partner when she was assaulted at about 7pm.

Sallie Hewitt, prosecuting, said McCartney, of Ransom Avenue, off Bath Road, Worcester, slapped the woman “twice in the face, once just inside the front door, then in the kitchen”.

Police were called and McCartney was arrested, later admitting what she had done in interview.

Sarah Brady, in mitigation, explained there had been no history of trouble between McCartney’s daughter and the neighbour, who had since moved house.

She said her client - who had no previous convictions, had been “angry, upset and acted foolishly.”

Sentencing McCartney, David Stott, deputy district judge, said assault was “not a trivial offence” and gave McCartney a 12-month conditional discharge ordering her to pay £60 costs and £25 compensation to her victim.
