PRIMARY school youngsters have been learning how to surf safely online during an e-safety day.

Teachers at Red Hill CE Primary School, Midhurst Close, Worcester, have been giving tips on getting the most out of the internet.

Pupils talked about cyber-bullying and were taught why they should never give out personal details like mobile phone numbers, age, address or computer passwords online.

Schoolchildren also signed an agreement to stay safe when using computers or their mobile phones to surf the web or speak to people.

The e-safety and technology day was aimed at educating internet-savvy youngsters who are increasingly using text messaging and internet social networking sites like Bebo and MySpace to communicate both in and out of school.

Sue Roberts, acting headteacher, said: “I don’t think pupils always fully understand the dangers all around them. You cannot stop them but you can teach them how to avoid problems.”
