A WORCESTERSHIRE man has been rewarded for his tireless volunteer work, which has raised thousands of pounds for youth charity the Prince’s Trust.
John Leftwich, of Rochford, near Tenbury Wells, has been named Volunteer of the Year and picked up his accolade at the Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success ceremony in Birmingham.
As chairman of the Hereford and Worcester branch, Mr Leftwich has played an instrumental role in raising more than £100,000 in the last year for the trust – more than double the amount raised the previous year.
His approach, which includes hosting glamourous events such as the recent premiere screening of the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace, has enabled the youth charity to help 50 more young people than predicted.
Mr Leftwich said: “This is a totally unexpected and pleasant surprise.”
“I not only enjoy giving up my time for the trust, but I strongly believe in the important work it does. I feel honoured and flattered to have been recognised.”
The Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success Awards recognise the achievements of disadvantaged young people who are supported by the trust and have succeeded against the odds, improved their chances in life and had a positive impact on their local community.
The award ceremony took place at the Birmingham ICC and was hosted by ITV Central presenter Joanne Malin.
Mr Leftwich will now go to the national Celebrate Success Awards being held in London in March 2009.
