VOLUNTEERS are urging people to support their jumble sale raising money for much-needed flood defences.
The sale organised by Powick Flood Forum is being held at Powick Parish Hall, near Worcester, from 2pm on Saturday.
People want defences to protect the 21 homes which flooded in last year’s summer storms and are doing their bit to help convince the Environment Agency to fund a project.
Tracy Cale, event co-organiser, who was one of those hit by the devastating floods said: “We welcome everybody, not just from the village, because we want a good response to our first event.”
Billed as a Posh Jumble Sale, the organisers have requested donations of good quality unwanted items from clothing to bedroom furniture. The local Women’s Institute is providing refreshments.
The Environment Agency’s preferred plan is to build a flood embankment alongside a Severn Trent Water-owned access road north of the A449 Malvern Road and another bank in the field behind the farm buildings.
