DOCTORS and nurses are being sought in two Worcestershire villages to help out in an emergency.
Following last year’s floods which cut-off many communities, a group has been set up by Powick Parish Council so they can deal with similar problems in the future.
The Parish Emergency Support Team (PEST) for Powick and Callow End has an action plan they are putting together which will have a number of key people in the community who can help when there are major problems.
Although they already have people on-board who can provide or supply emergency help and resources, including local councillors and some farmers, they are in need of more people to sign-up, especially if they have a medical background or training.
Plan co-ordinator parish councillor Janet Bowen said: “We are after some people to help us within the parish, such as doctors and nurses or people who have tractors to help us if it is a dire emergency. If the parish is left to its own resources because we have been cut off and we can’t get outside help then we will have this list of people who we know can help.”
“We do really need help with this list and with resources. We need to know who has tractors, who has trailers, boats and 4x4s and also generators, or people who have a particular skill that could help us. We would like them to come forward and tell us about it and offer us their help if the community is in trouble,” she said.
The numbers will be kept confidentially by key people within the parish and will only be used if needed. Each parish in the country is going to be asked to compile these plans in the near future and Powick will be one of the first to have one completed.
