DISTRICT councillors have splashed the cash to help out local communities on projects of their choice.

The latest spend comes from Wychavon Councillor Ron Davis who used his money to buy laptops for his local parish councils in Eckington and Strensham.

Coun Davis said: "So much of the work we do today relies on technology and I wanted to ensure that parishes have access not only to a PC but the internet so they can use the planning portal.

"This will help them to be well-informed when planning decisions are taken in their area which is critical for them and residents."

Chairman of Eckington Parish Council Arthur Ore said: "The laptop is really going to help us to improve our administration saving us time and money. It will be a real benefit to all concerned not only on planning issues but also when we’re not using it we also plan to let other small community organisations have use of it as well so it will be a real benefit to the parish."

Wychavon district councillors get a small budget of money to spend in their local communities every year.

Coun Tom McDonald spent £70 on helping to upgrade and repair Charlton village bus stop shelter, as well as giving £50 to Cropthorne Parish Council to support the further preparation and distribution of their parish plan.

Coun Clive Holt donated £400 to Harvington Youth Project, Coun John Grantham donated £500 to the Pershore Fairtrade Group, while Coun Martin King and Coun Emma Stokes donated £250 each to Evesham Running Club to help promote their 10th Anniversary 10km run.
