A LOVING daughter who set up a fund in memory of her father is asking for people’s support.
Sarah Phelps, of Scobell Close, in Pershore, lost her father in January last year, aged 69, after he fought a nine-year battle with lung disease and asthma.
Since the start of the year she has been raising money for the trust fund she set up in his name - The Robert Welch Breath of Life Fund.
“To be honest it’s the only way I can deal with it.
“Having watched my father who was a proud man and fixed his own car, did his own DIY, deteriorate in front of my eyes and become so dependent on other people was soul destroying.
“But I know he would have been proud of me setting up the fund.”
Mrs Phelps, 43, is initially trying to raise £10,000 which will then go to the British Lung Foundation to research causes and treatments for the condition which affected her father, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. (COPD) The money will also support the foundation’s Breathe Easy community support groups.
Mr Welch was an engineer working at Dowty Engineering Seals and later H L Ravenscroft Plastics, in Tewkesbury, before his condition forced his retirement.
The charity Christmas quiz is at Number 8 Community Arts Theatre, in Pershore, from 7.30pm on Friday, December 5.
Teams of four are needed, with £20 entry per team, including canapes, prizes for the winners and a raffle later on.
For further information contact Mrs Phelps on 07811 245629.
