AN MP who was attacked by a gang of youths as he carried balloons to his parents’ golden wedding party in Worcester has met city MP Mike Foster.
Mr Foster said he sought out Adam Price as soon as the Plaid Cymru party member returned to work following the assault at the South Quay fountains.
The attack left the 40-year-old Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP “battered and bruised” and paramedics were called to take him and a friend to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.
Mr Foster said Mr Price praised the emergency services and hospital staff who treated him and his friend following the assault on Saturday, October 25.
“I spoke to Adam the first week he was back after the incident and he explained what happened,” said Mr Foster.
“As you know his parents live in Worcester and he made it clear to me it was an absolutely random incident and not typical of Worcester as a whole.
“He knows that and said he wanted to make that clear.”
Mr Foster said that although Mr Price, who speaks for his party on treasury, trade and industry matters, still had “a bit of a bashed up nose” when they spoke, he was doing fine.
“He’s a big lad – he’s well in excess of six foot so you really do question whether it was wise to take him on,” said Mr Foster.
“He’s absolutely fine and he’s genuinely grateful for the people of Worcester who came to his aid and contacted the emergency services.”
We previously reported in your Worcester News how West Mercia Constabulary police officers were quickly on the scene after the assault happened and subsequntly arrested four teenagers and one man.
They are all still on bail to return to Worcester police station while enquiries continue.
Mr Price’s spokeswoman Heledd Fychan said they did not wish to comment at this stage.
Anybody who saw the assault should call police on 08457 444888, quoting 532S/251008, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
