TWO engineers from Worcester College of Technology have competed in the UK finals of the Skill Mechanical and Electrical competitions.

Organised by SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering, the competitions have been designed to promote skills and competence in the sector.

Twenty-two-year-old Christopher Morgan, of Upper Bentley, and 20-year-old Joe Stabbins, of Crabbs Cross, both near Redditch, qualified for a place in the UK SkillM&E finals after taking home silver awards in their regional heats.

Mr Morgan, an electrician employed by MRT Electrical in Worcester, and Mr Stabbins, a plumber employed by Aquae in Worcester, competed against nine other contestants from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in the SkillELECTRIC and Skill- PLUMB UK finals.

The two-and-a-half-day practical skills competitions presented competitors with a series of demanding tests based on real-life work situations involving installing pipework, jointing, fixing power circuits and cabling to a high specification and within tight timescales.
