OUR November meeting was the annual one and was held appropriately on Remembrance Day.
After the silent tribute and homage the chairman gave a summary of the past year which would ultimately mark the end of his term as chairman as he did not wish to stand again.
We were reminded of the sad loss of colleagues during the year with our much loved friend Doug Walker and two friends from our subbranch at Broadheath, Geoff Cooke and Keith Fraser.
In reviewing the year it was clear that we still had a lot of progress to make in our long term objectives but it was gratifying to see the year-on-year growth in our annual Poppy Collection.
The remembrance services at Powick and Callow End on Sunday, November 9, were extremely well attended by all uniformed groups, who are a credit to themselves and their organisers.
The poppy collection appeared to be going well and we are looking forward to the final figure at our next meeting, however the winner of the annual challenge cup competition is now known.
Congratulations to the Bear and Ragged staff who achieved £91.78.
Election of officers: chairman, Neville Fairbairn; vice chairman, G Taggart; secretary, F Davis; treasurer, T Barry; membership secretary, J Kirton; poppy organiser, Mrs I Derrett; standard bearer, J Mason.
The president David Brickell was given a unanimous vote of confidence by all members present and our patron remains C Newton.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 13, at Madresfield Club starting at 8.15pm.
JOHN MASON
