U3A is an organisation for retired/semi retired people who would like to learn more skills or just enjoy some company with a friendly organisation.

Registration day at Dines Green Centre was a great success. It attracted many prospective members interested in joining this thriving group, of which the membership exceeds 500.

Group organisers, all volunteer members, were ready to offer advice on the many self help groups – 55 in all with a wide range of subjects from art, history and bowling to travel talks and walking – all at locations around Worcester.

Anyone with a special interest is very welcome to share their knowledge or expertise with others.

Fortnightly general meetings started on October 1 with a talk on the homes and haunts and family of Elgar – Worcestershire’s most famous composer – given by a member of the Worcester Walks Green guides.

The group annual meeting was on October 15 and several members offered their services on the committee. It was followed by a talk/slide show by our photography guru, Andrew Gagg, entitled Not Arf a Life showing his career in theatre set design and later his many assignments with the BBC.

The meeting on October 29 was given a talk by one of the members of the photography group who gallantly stepped in at the last moment when the booked speaker was unable to attend. Pam recounted how she was asked to become a pen pal to a Finnish teacher of English and she showed slides of her trips to Finland visiting the family over the past 30 years.

Main meetings of Worcester U3A are are on alternate Wednesdays at Dines Green Community Centre.

New members are always welcome and for more information about the organisation contact Hazel Matthews on 353534 or Anne on 773474.
