A CASHIER was caught stealing thousands of pounds from Worcester’s main post office, after bosses installed a spy camera.
Julie Garbett stole £3,500 from the Post Office in WHSmith in two separate thefts.
Worcester magistrates heard shop managers noticed her till was £2,000 down when cashing up at the end of the day on Tuesday, September 2.
Garbett - who is pregnant, went off sick for a month the following day so suspicious store bosses installed a covert camera monitoring her cashier booth.
When she returned to work her till was again down this time by £1,500, so the camera footage was checked and showed her pocketing a £500 bundle of £20 notes.
Marie Watton, prosecuting, said: “She was suspended and asked to attend interviews but never showed up.”
The police were called and Garbett, 23, of Back Walk, off The Tything, Worcester, was arrested. At court she admitted both charges.
Paul Stanley, in mitigation, said: “She moved into new accommodation but got into trouble financially and has a baby due in three weeks.
“The way this was done was not particularly sophisticated.”
Garbett was released on unconditional bail to appear back at court on Friday, December 5.
