WORCESTERSHIRE’S Severn Valley Railway has won a major tourism award.

It scooped the “best tourism experience” in the Excellence in Tourism Awards held at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre.

Organised by Tourism West Midlands and Advantage West Midlands, the awards recognise the best places to stay and visit in the West Midlands region.

Bewdley tourist information centre won the award for best tourist information service and there was a clutch of wins for Herefordshire attractions.

Poston Mill at Peterchurch won best caravan holiday park and best example of sustainable tourism, Goodrich Castle, near Ross on Wye won best small visitor attraction and Woodhouse Farm Cottages, near Ledbury were awarded best self catering holiday.

All the winners will now go forward to the national finals next April to compete against other regional winners from across England.
