ROADWORKS are due to start tomorrow on a busy Worcester road as part of a project to build a new Sainsburys supermarket.
During resurfacing work at the junction of St John’s and Bransford Road in St John’s, a four-way traffic light system will be in place.
The hours of work will be 8am to 5pm on Sunday and 9am to 3.30pm on Monday, November 17, to Friday, November 21.
Drainage work will be starting on Swanpool Walk towards the end of November between 7am and 4pm. Traffic management and pedestrian diversions will be in place and access to the car park and sports centre will be maintained.
Throughout the works, access to the back of St John’s, including the car park and sports centre, will also be maintained.
Sainsbury’s combined scheme includes construction of a 26,000sq ft foodstore, a new sports centre, youth centre and improvements to the Christopher Whitehead Language College.
Jamie Cowen, head of Sainsbury’s property development, said: “I would like to thank the residents of St John’s for their ongoing co-operation. These road works are an essential part of the development and will improve traffic flow for motorists, as well as the immediate residents and traders.
“I am looking forward to the opening next year, as well as the other exciting aspects of the St John’s development scheme.”
