THE pond in a Worcester Park had to be drained and two swans rescued following an oil spill.
Tens of litres of the substance poured into Gheluvelt Park’s pond via a stream this afternoon.
After the Environment Agency located the source, firefighters worked to contain the spill using inflatable booms and absorbent pads.
Volunteers from Bishop Wood Swan Rescue Centre were also on hand to rescue two swans contaminated by the oil.
An investigation into how the water became polluted has been launched, and for legal reasons the Environment Agency were not able to disclose the source.
