SPROUT lovers are in for a feast today if they visit Worcester city centre for its first vegetable-themed fair.
The Sproutmania fair, which opened at the Cathedral Plaza yesterday, has already attracted hundreds of visitors eager to taste the famous sprouty cake and the new sprout-flavoured sausages.
The event, organised by Worcestershire chef Felice Tocchini along with sprout expert and grower William Haines, was designed to put a bit of fun back into cooking and highlight the importance of using local produce.
The fair featured a local produce market with Flights Orchard Organics, Tunnel Brewery, Box Court Plants and Gardens, Lightwood Cheeses, Malvern baker La Delice and Teme Vale sausages and bacon who all showed their support for the two-day extravaganza.
Mr Tocchini said he was excited the fair was up and running.
“I am a great believer that an organic fair should be held in Worcester as we have so many produce growers in the area and we should take advantage of this,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity to show people how to have fun with cooking.
“A lot of people just boil the sprout to death and don’t think about how to cook it and other vegetables properly. The spout cake is very popular and people do seem to like it, so the sausage was just another thing we decided to try.”
