VOLUNTEERS with a good knowledge of Worcester are wanted to help out at this year’s Christmas Fayre.
The visitor information patroller (VIP) scheme was trialled in the summer and is being developed with a view to launching it for the main tourist season next summer.
VisitWorcester, the organisation responsible for events, tourism and city centre management, wants friendly and approachable people to help trial and develop the scheme over the Christmas Fayre period.
Volunteers will be interviewed and be asked to complete a short test on their local knowledge before being mobilised out and around the city centre.
Information centre manager Alexandra Syrotiuk said: “This is an ideal opportunity for local people to get involved and pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm for Worcester to visitors.
Visitors often arrive in Worcester not knowing what is on offer or where anything is and the Christmas Fayre weekend is always so busy that it can be very disorientating if you are new to the city or not sure where you are going.
“We are trying to improve our service to visitors and we felt that a visible presence in the city would be beneficial to make visitors and locals alike more aware of places they could visit, give directions and maps to assist people and let them know all about what Worcester has to offer.”
Anyone interested in getting involved in the fayre, which runs from Thursday, November 27, to Sunday, November 30, should contact Alexandra Syrotiuk at the Guildhall-based information centre on 01905 726311.
