PROJECTS in Worcestershire are being sought to compete for the Oscars of the property professionals world.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has lauched its search for entries for its 2009 awards, the competition that saw a win this year for the Fairfield mixed-use site in Worcester Developed by RICS to celebrate the best new projects in the built and natural environment, the awards are free to enter.

They are just one of the ways RICS promotes best practice consist of four categories: building conservation; regeneration; sustainability and community benefit.

Winners must show a commitment to value-for-money and sustainability, as well as being the best in their category.

One project each year is also chosen to receive the distinguished, Project of the Year award.

Winners of this judges’ award are specifically selected for their outstanding use of property professional skills - regenerating, developing and conserving the environment in which we live.

Ian Pitt, RICS West Midlands chair, said: “The RICS Awards embody our commitment to serve the public interest and are an annual celebration of built and natural environment projects that demonstrate excellence, a commitment to value for money and sustainability.

"Every year we see a tremendous variety of entries and the judges have an incredibly difficult task in selecting the winners.

"Following the success of the Fairfield scheme this year, we are anxious to attract as many entries as we can from Worcestershire for 2009.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham, on May 14, 2009.
