THE president welcomed members to the October meeting. A list of coming events was given out, including shopping trips, celebrity lunch and carol service.
The speaker for the evening was introduced and he gave us a talk and slides on Well Dressing in Derbyshire.
It started several hundred years ago when they decorated and blessed the wells for the clean water they provided. The one slide was of a 12ft high Lord’s Prayer. It took a week to do from the beginning of the clay base, to transferring the pattern on. The writing was done with sweetcorn kernels, the background was rhubarb seeds, both sides had a pattern again outlined in sweetcorn kernels and filled in with petals from hydrangea, geranium, buttercup and bluebell. One slide was of Worcester Cathedral with coat of arms and canal barges. The beautiful slides were enjoyed by all.
Tea, coffee and biscuits were served and raffle drawn. The next meeting is our annual one and several members put their names down for committee.
