TWO men have been jailed for their part in a drunken brawl in the city centre.
Todd Burston, aged 21, of Windermere Drive, Warndon, and James Terry, of The Heights, off Newtown Road, aged 23, of admitted using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause fear of unlawful violence in Angel Place in the early hours of Saturday, July 16.
Terry also admitted breaching a one-year conditional discharge handed down in September last year for being drunk and disorderly.
Sending both men down, deputy district judge David Stott said: “This was violent yobbish behaviour when you had every opportunity to walk away after the first clash, but chose to return again and again.”
The pair who had met through work were on a night out and had left Images nightclub with two girls they met inside.
City CCTV recorded one of the girls instigating a fight with another male in the street and the two men then were then seen joining in.
Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said: “The attack was over several minutes but the victim walked away and didn’t want to press charges.”
Officers arrived and arrested the two defendants getting into a cab and both initially claimed they had been assaulted with Burston stating their detention was “a joke.”
Terry became aggressive and after approaching one officer had to be forcibly restrained, according to Ms Stock.
Under interview both were shown the CCTV footage and expressed regret.
Burston told officers he had drunk between 10 and 15 pints and taken cocaine during the evening and stated he hoped he had “knocked out” the fight victim.
However, Ms Stock said, on viewing the footage he admitted his behaviour was “over the top.”
Mark Lister, defending, said: “He’s pleaded guilty to a section 4 public order offence and nothing more serious than that.”
When Terry saw the footage he said was “embarrassed and upset” by his behaviour and apologised according to Brian O’Connell, defending.
Burston was jailed for eight weeks and Terry for six weeks.
