A MAN has died after taking heroin in Stourport-on-Severn, prompting fears a strong or contaminated batch of the drug might be circulating in the area.
The 32-year-old man was found collapsed at his home in the early hours of yesterday morning after apparently injecting himself with heroin.
Paramedics were called but attempts to resuscitate him failed.
A woman, who is believed to have also injected heroin, was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital for treatment and later released.
She was arrested in connection with the man’s death and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Constable Steve Cook of Kidderminster CID said: “We are concerned that the heroin used by the man and the woman was either stronger than normal or contaminated.
“We want to warn drug users that there may be problems with heroin being supplied in the Wyre Forest area and that drug users experiencing any unusual symptoms should seek urgent medical attention.
“Clearly using heroin or other Class A drugs is always a risk and our advice to drug users is to seek professional help to overcome the addiction.”
Mr Cook said officers are committed to disrupting the supply of drugs and urged anyone with any information either about the current supply of heroin or other drugs in the area to call the police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
