A GANG who attacked an MP as he carried balloons to his parent’s golden wedding anniversary party in Worcester have been released by police.
South Worcestershire Police said five men who were arrested after Plaid Cymru's Adam Price was attacked at the South Quay fountains beside the river Severn had now been bailed to return to Worcester Police Station while enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Jim Fox, who is leading the investigation, appealed for information about the incident in which one of Mr Price’s male friends was also hurt.
As reported yesterday the attack happened at about 5.10pm as the pair were on their way to make the final preparations for Mr Price’s parents' celebratory meal at Brown’s Restaurant on Saturday.
Mr Price’s spokeswoman Heledd Fychan said the 40-year-old Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP was “battered and bruised” and suffered a black eye following the unprovoked attack.
Both men required treatment at Worcestershire Royal Hospital but are said to be at home now recovering from the ordeal.
Anyone who saw the incident is asked to contact police on 08457 444888, quoting 532S/261008. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
