A FRAMED copy of an original report of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Admiral Lord Nelson in your Worcester News’ sister paper the Berrow’s Journal has been presented to an American naval commander.
The presentation was made to Commander Bill Bullard – the first official American Navy representative to visit Worcester since former presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson came on a pilgrimage to Fort Royal in 1786 – outside the city’s Guildhall before more distinguished guests arrived in Morgan cars at the Worcester Trafalgar Commemorative Group’s annual dinner night.
The dinner took place at the King Charles Restaurant, New Street, last Friday night. The West Mercia Police Pipe Band played guests in before they accompanied them in a solemn salute to members of armed forces killed in action since the group’s last dinner.
Sir Timothy Ackroyd, whose family knew Edward Elgar and Winston Churchill among other legendary figures, was guest speaker at the dinner.
