A SHOPPING centre in Worcester has been holding a series of events to help prevent accidents.

The CrownGate centre has been marking European Health and Safety Week all this week.

It is particuarly hoping to prevent slips, trips and falls.

According to recent statistics, 1,500 people over the age of 65 in Worcestershire are admitted to hospital each year due to injuries suffered in a fall.

Figures also show that falls cost businesses nationally more than £5m per year through staff absence and compensation payments.

CrownGate centre manager Erica Burlace said: “This year’s theme, Slips, Trips and Falls is relevant to both our staff and customers, and by raising awareness and implementing changes on site, including staff training, we aim to reduce the costly affects for businesses and individuals alike.”

Yesterday Worcestershire Primary Care trust was at the centre demonstrating a new interactive website, which focuses on falls prevention, causes and treatments, as well as giving advice and information to shoppers on how they can avoid slips, trips and falls in the office.
