SHOPKEEPERS have been asked by police not to sell eggs and flour to children this Halloween and bonfire night because of fears they will be used by vandals.
Police will visit local shops and ask them to display posters telling shoppers that flour and eggs will only be sold to over 18s only or youngsters accompanied by an adult.
PC Paul Adams, overseeing the project, said: “This is a purely voluntary scheme but we hope as many shops as possible will join in to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents during the period.
“Unfortunately, a minority of people can use these products to vandalise property when ‘trick or treating’ and although such ‘trick’ incidents are thankfully few and far between, we hope this move can help to prevent any.”
