A SPECIAL concert will take place tomorrow night to celebrate the restoration of an historic piano.
Worcester Sixth Form College’s grand Steinway piano was built in 1929 and considered to be from the Golden Age for Steinway production.
It was bought from Steinway House in London by Worcester Girls’ Grammar School in 1952 and cost the then remarkable sum of £525 – approximately the same cost as a small house.
Until recently, the instrument was largely unused.
However, thanks to a full internal restoration by Cheltenham Pianos, it has now been returned to concert condition and experts believe it to be one of the best pianos in the city.
The college has decided to mark this event by holding a Steinway Celebration evening tomorrow at 7.30pm in the College Hall.
Featured artists will include students and teachers – both past and present. A varied programme will include pieces from Debussy and Chopin as well as jazz piano.
Visitors are welcome and admission is free. There will be a retiring collection for the Worcester Concert Club.
