AT the September meeting, the Rev Allan Ricketts gave a talk entitled A Passion For Donkeys. He said donkeys originated from North Africa. They were bred and sold as working animals in the 1800s. The jobs varied as to what they were used for, such as bringing supplies from Bristol to Gloucester, cutting grass towing a grass cutter behind them, pulling carts and used by road sweepers. In later years donkeys have been found at fetes and on beaches around the country to entertain children by giving them rides.
The latter part of Allan’s talk became quite hilarious, when he told of two donkeys he owned for five years. One was named Hanky Panky (very naughty and easily bored), the other was Pink Gin (very placid and endearing).
Early in October 32 members met for an enjoyable fish and chip supper. Afterwards, a quiz and beetle drive took place.
On Thursday, October 23 our next meeting is entitled My American Dream. All visitors welcome.
