A PENSIONER who went on a car-smashing rampage after the woman he was having an affair with ended their relationship is to be setenced at Worcester Crown Court.
The city’s magistrates deemed Geoffrey Emms’ case to have exceeded their sentencing guidelines.
The 64-year-old had admitted causing £1,646 damage to a Renault Clio, £942 damage to a Renault Laguna, and £887.25 damage to a Vauxhall Astra between Friday, April 18, and Sunday, April 20, at a previous hearing.
Emms, of Walwyn Road, Upper Colwall, Malvern, also admitted causing £664 damage to a Vauxhall Corsa, £920.50 damage to a Vauxhall Vivaro, and damage to another Renault Clio between Tuesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 26.
Emms, who was of previous good character, also aslo asked for a further 22 to be taken into consideration.
Marie Watton, prosecuting, said Emms tried to end his own life when police first conacted him about the damaged cars.
She added that once he was in a fit state to be interviewed he was very frank and open about what he had done which had helped save the police a lot of time and having to use forensics on all of the damaged cars.
She said after Emms had damaged his ex-lover’s car he damaged others to make it look like a random attack.
In mitigation Barry Newton said the crimes were committed at a time in Emms’ life when he had various weighty matters on his mind causing him a great deal of stress.
We previously reported how his wife had been diagnosed with alzheimers.
“He’s thoroughly ashamed of what he did,” said Mr Newton.
Mr Newton said Emms was now in a better state emotionally and added he was trying to get his life back on track.
The case was sent to the crown court and he will be sentenced on Friday, November 21.
He was released on unconditional bail until that date.
