HIS dream is to perform for 700 happy fans who are singing his lyrics aloud every night. And, if early success is anything to go, Sam Isaac will find that a reality sooner rather than later.
From Malvern schoolboy to fully fledged UK singer songwriter, Sam has retained his DIY attitude to making music from the heart and for his audience.
The 22-year-old troubadour is a dedicated touring musician, headlining all over the UK, supporting the likes of Scouting For Girls and Tellison and giving his all at Latitude festival and the BBC Electric Proms – which, incidentally, he has described as the most fun he ever had on stage.
However, it has been almost a year since he played at home.
On Friday, October 24, Sam returns to Worcester in triumph. It will be the last date of his full band tour.
He said: “Worcester is always good.
Quite a few friends turn up and it’s nice and appreciative, but I’m actually quite nervous. Excited too, but nervous. I’ve not played at the Marr’s Bar since last Christmas.”
With influential DJs Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, Zane Lowe, Janice Long and John Kennedy lining up to heap praise upon Isaac, he has become talk of the town – and the radio.
“I’ve done a few live sessions on radio and have been getting air play for about a year,” he said.
“It’s phenomenal, but my dream is playing for 700 people a night and to have them all sing back the words I wrote. I think that’s more important than massive radio play, so, in that way, I would rather have a reputation as a live performer.”
Importantly for Isaac, the Marr’s Bar gig will be 16s and over, allowing younger live music fans to sample his acoustic pop treats.
He said: “That definitely is important to me. Whenever I do 18-plus shows there are a load of 17-year-olds being turned away.
Venues just love kicking out 16-yearolds and most of them just want to hear live music.
“We want to make it inclusive so as along as people bring ID, they should get in.”
