SWAN Lane First School in Evesham is set to reopen its atrium after it was gutted by fire during the summer holidays.
In July the atrium, a play area that joins the two reception classrooms at the school, was targeted by arsonists who caused about £20,000 of damage.
School caretaker Johann Importante alerted authorities to the blaze before it had time to spread, and fire officials confirmed if it had not been for his quick thinking the damage caused could have been far worse.
Work has since been going on all summer to rebuild the atrium, with the entire area needing to be cleared, cleaned, repainted and reglazed.
Headteacher Graham Walker will ask Mr Importante to officially reopen the atrium next Tuesday.
He said: “I am delighted to invite Johann to officially open it.
“His prompt action, together with the rapid response by the fire brigade, saved the school.”
