SCHOOLchildren presented food to representatives of a homeless shelter in Worcester as part of their harvest festival celebrations.

The youngsters at Bowbrook House School in Peopleton, near Pershore, handed over the tins and dried food to Maggs Day Centre staff at a special assembly.

They also presented a cheque for £2,000, which was raised from a summer ball.

James Auden, junior school co-ordinator, said instead of getting children to bring in traditional fresh produce they asked for tins.

“The Maggs Day Centre is one of those charities that needs every single bit of help it can get and the children were able to learn about homelessness at the same time,” he said.

The centre, in Deansway, Worcester, provides food, shelter and support to homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless.

The money will provide them with enough food to last six months.
