A CHURCH minister has praised the community for stepping in to end her kitchen nightmare.

Rev Fran Binding put out a desperate appeal in your Worcester News for skilled tradespeople and donors to help replace the dilapidated kitchen at St Matthew’s Church Hall, in Lichfield Avenue, in Ronskwood.

The plea was answered by Worcester Community Housing and its kitchen contractor Moores Furniture Group who have now agreed to source and fit the kitchen later this year, at a meeting last Thursday.

Following another meeting with tradespeople on Monday, the associated works including re-flooring, tiling painting and decorating have been agreed, with the church paying for materials.

A kitchen donated by a Spetchley Road resident will be sold to put towards the cost of a new boiler.

The Salvation Army have stepped in to offer the kitchen and meeting room at the nearby Salvation Army Hall for two events once the refurbishment work gets underway.

Ms Binding said: “It’s been wonderful and in the process we’ve got to know some people locally.

“We’re really pleased with the housing association stepping in because its paying us back for letting them use the hall free once a month for drop-in sessions.”

A timetable for the kitchen makeover is still being hammered out.
