THE August meeting was held as a social evening in the garden of one of the members. Almost £100 was raised, and donations were sent to Acorns Children’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The September meeting was well attended and we had an interesting talk about ceramic handbags.
Brenda Wholey told us how she regained confidence and physical ability after a traumatic attack in which she suffered head injuries.
Part of her rehabilitation was to work with clay. While experimenting she perfected her ceramic handbag designs. They were made using very fine clay which she decorated with broken coloured glass, and using numerous ways to imprint patterns on the clay.
Mrs Wholey now sends all the proceeds from the sale of her ceramics to a small village in Gambia. Her money has helped to build a new school and a clinic for women.
A special evening was arranged for September when Mr Adams, the St John’s librarian, came to talk about the future of the library.
They have been fortunate to have received a lottery grant and are hoping that new improvements will begin in January. The plans can be viewed at the library.
The next meeting of the guild will be on Thursday, November 20, at 7.30pm in Bromyard Road Methodist church hall when Catherine Clark will give a talk entitled My Life And Hats.
